A trip away in Oakley, the luxury motorhome to hire with island bed
Hi, I’m David and a new member of the team here at Hey Campers.
Adam and Trudi decided that the best way to find my way around a motorhome would be to actually drive it and learn how it works, so I went away with my girlfriend Emily for a couple of nights to get to know our brand-new motorhome Oakley.
We decided to go to the Rag Country Inn near Cannock Chase as we had seen it on social media and thought it looked like a good option that our campers may like.
We picked Oakley up from the Hey Campers depot in Coalville on Monday morning and left our car there so we could get straight on the road to our destination.
Adam gave us both a full demonstration of how everything worked in and around the motorhome. There are a lot of items included in the hire which was really convenient.
We headed off to our destination using the brand-new TomTom sat nav in the cab and made our way to a lovely lunch spot the Whittington Arms pub just outside of Lichfield which had a big enough car park to comfortably park the motorhome in.
After lunch we made our way to the Rag Country Inn where we were staying for 2 nights in one of the six motorhome pitches they have on their picturesque grounds. They have all the facilities of a camp site with electric hook up, toilets, showers, fresh water and a disposal point. All this is just £20 per night so makes it a fantastic location for a long weekend or stop off on your way to Wales.
We made use of the on-board Wi-Fi in Oakley which had an excellent signal despite us being in a valley. We cooked in the motorhome on our first night so we used the hob and oven supplied by the gas bottle included.
The spacious fridge comes with a separate drink’s chiller so we could enjoy a couple of ice cold beers. The ice cream also stayed frozen in the freezer section of the fridge which we were very impressed with.
On our second day we explored the local area on the bikes we hired as Oakley has a bike rack for up to 4 bikes and you can hire adult and children’s bikes which are loaded and ready to go when you collect.
This location is perfect to explore Cannock Chase AONB (area of natural beauty) as well as other local attractions including Chasewater Railway, Beaudesert Outdoor activity centre and Designer Outlet West Midlands are all within 4 miles.
That evening we had dinner at the Rag Country Inn where we were staying and we had an amazing meal of hanging kebabs in the restaurant before going to the bar to have some cocktails.
After our break we reluctantly headed home to unload Oakley. My girls, Thea, 6 and Eliana, 4 love the motorhomes and would love us to take them away for a few days – I think Finley or Ruby with the bunk beds would be ideal for them so we may need to plan another trip for later in the year.
Overall, we had so much fun on our few days away. I’m enjoying the challenge of working at Hey Campers and looking forward to meeting many of our campers over the summer.
